All there is to know about SBLI!
What is SBLI?!!
SBLI Productions (which
stands for stressed but loving it!) is a NODA- and NYFVO-registered Musical Theatre
group aimed at children and young people aged
7+.
It is entirely staffed
by volunteers. We aim to provide as varied a range of experiences as possible,
including:-
- workshops to improve acting, singing
and dancing
- introduction to all
aspects of backstage and front of house work, including the chance to be
actively involved in the production of our shows
- social events and
theatre trips
- residential trips once
or a twice a year to rehearse for shows and develop
skills
- and of course the opportunity
to take part in a major musical in July each year, with regular smaller
shows such as plays and cabaret
nights

Who is SBLI for?
The Society is for anyone who wants to be involved in performing arts, either
as a performer or a member of our crew. You do not need to have any experience
at all, and we pride ourselves on developing skills in all of our members, whether
you are a confident, outgoing performer or shy and have never set foot on a stage!
The categories of membership are:
- SBLI Seniors, for those aged 14-21 (or 13 year olds who are invited to
become Seniors because of their considerable musical theatre experience)
- SBLI Juniors, for those aged 10-13
- SBLI Minis, for those aged 7-9
- SBLI Adult membership, for anyone aged 18+ who would like to be involved
with organising productions, helping with weekly sessions, being a member
of the Executive Committee or the Production Team for a specific show,
or supporting
our work in some other way
How much does it cost?
We like to keep membership costs as low as possible, to ensure that no-one is
excluded from SBLI on financial grounds.
There is an annual subscription fee
(£35 for Seniors and Juniors; £20 for Minis and £10 for adults),
which covers insurance,
NODA/NYFVO membership, and contributes to the other running
costs of the Society, plus £1 per week attended to pay for the rent.
As
these low fees do not cover the considerable costs of putting on a high quality
show, we do expect all of our members, however young, to contribute to fundraising
events.
When and Where?
We meet on Thursdays at Lithgow and Sons Auctioneers, Station Road, Stokesley from 4-8pm during term time. SBLI Minis attend every two weeks, Juniors and Seniors every week. Not everyone will need to attend for the whole time; times will vary depending on what we are rehearsing for.
Our performances usually take place at varying locations, with our major show being in July and other shows around Christmas and Easter. Residential trips will normally run in the Easter and Summer holidays.
Stokesley is approximately 15 minutes drive from Middlesbrough, and easy to get to from all over the Teesside area.

How is the Society run?
| SBLI Productions is governed by an Executive Committee, made up of the Chair,
Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, plus two parent representatives and any
other Adult member who wishes to join. The Executive Committee makes all decisions
by majority vote, including choosing the shows, setting membership fees, admitting
and removing members, social events and anything else which affects the day to
day work of the Society. For further details, please feel free to check out our
constitution.
Individual shows are run by a Production Team, which is co-opted by the Executive
Committee. These teams will vary depending on the show chosen, but will always
include the Director, Producer, Artistic Director and Technical Director. There
may also be a Musical Director, Choreographer, Backstage Manager, Front of
House Manager, Sound and Lighting Designers, plus any others deemed necessary
by the Director/Producer. We usually also elect a Junior Production Team, with
a Society member aged 16 or under supporting each of the Senior team. Obviously
we also have technical, scenery and backstage crews, as well as parents and
other volunteers to work front of house on show nights.
For more information about how the society is run please find our phone number and contact details on the contact info page. |
